How to Make Mexican Pan Dulce  Sweet  at Home

Pan Dulce is like a bread filled with fruits and nuts, popular during Christmas in Argentina. You can buy it in stores, but I wanted to make it myself to enjoy it anytime.

Ingredients:  For  Pan Dulce 

Yeast Mix: – 50g yeast – 1/3 cup milk (room temperature) – 1/8 cup flour – 1 tablespoon sugar

Dough: – 2 egg – 2/3 cup sugar – 1 tablespoon malt extract – 1 tablespoon vanilla extract – 3 1/2 cups flour – 1 teaspoon salt – 7 tablespoons softened butter – 2/3 cup milk

Fruits & Nuts: – 1/2 cup walnut – 1/2 cup almond – 1/2 cup hazelnut – 1/2 cup purple raisin – 1/2 cup golden raisin – 1/2 cup dried cranberrie – 1/2 cup candied  – Rum or cognac (as needed) – 1 egg (for brushing on top)

Instructions:

1. Mix yeast in milk. Add sugar and flour, stir, cover, and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Instructions:

In a big bowl, mix eggs, sugar, malt extract, and vanilla. Add the yeast mix. Gradually add flour, salt, butter, and milk. Mix until you have a smooth dough.

Instructions:

Cover the dough and let it rise for 30 minutes. Toast nuts in a pan and let them cool. Soak raisins in rum or cognac for 10-15 minutes. If you don’t have molds, use parchment-lined cans.

Instructions:

Mix fruits and nuts into the dough. Divide the dough, shape it into balls, and place in molds or cans, filling them halfway. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Cut a cross on top of each. Brush with beaten egg. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Don't overbake, or it'll be dry.
